2019 CBSA Scholarship Recipients

CBSA member company employees, children of member company employees and students enrolled in an undergraduate industrial distribution degree program are eligible to apply for the CBSA scholarship.

The Copper and Brass Servicenter Association (CBSA) is pleased to award a 2019 CBSA Scholarship to the following students:

R. Franklin Brown Jr. Scholarship

Holly Kailher Named


Holly Kailher has been selected as the R. Franklin Brown Jr. Scholarship recipient for 2019, CBSA’s top award for outstanding academic achievement and extracurricular activities.

Holly will be a freshman in the fall at University of Rhode Island majoring in nursing. Her goal is to receive a bachelor’s degree in nursing and continue on to graduate school to obtain her masters in nursing and eventually become a nurse practitioner. In high school, Holly carried a 4.0 GPA while participating in many extracurricular activities including soccer, lacrosse, student council, the National Honor Society and the Spanish Nationals Honor Society. Holly also volunteers with the Special Olympics and at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital while working part-time.

The R. Franklin Brown Jr. Scholarship honors R. Franklin Brown, Jr., who retired from CBSA in 2009 after 50 years at the helm of the Copper and Brass Servicenter Association as executive vice president. He joined the trade group in 1959 and was quickly promoted to the position of executive vice president. Upon Brown’s retirement he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council for his exemplary service to the industry.

 


 

2019 CBSA Scholarship Recipients

Alexandra Allers


Alexandra will be a freshman at the Michigan State University in the fall majoring in pre-law/public policy and affairs. Alexandra has maintained 4.4 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including the National Honor Society, Drama Club, Mock Trial and student council. CBSA congratulates Alexandra on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.
 

Irma Avdic


Irma will be a junior at the University of Louisville in the fall majoring in chemistry/pre-pharmacy. Irma has maintained 4.0 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including the Student Organization for Alumni Relations, Bridges International and the Society of Undergraduate Chemistry Students. CBSA congratulates Irma on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.
 

Taylor Beard 

Taylor will be a sophomore in the fall at Ohio University and is majoring in chemistry/pre-dental. Taylor has maintained 4.0 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including president of the hall council and a member of the Pre-Dental Society. CBSA congratulates Taylor on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.
 

Trinity Duran


Trinity will be a freshman at Ave Maria University in the fall majoring in Biology. Trinity has maintained 4.0 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities varsity weightlifting, varsity softball, Key Club and Students in Support of Doctors without Borders. CBSA congratulates Trinity on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.

Hayden Haas

Hayden will be a freshman at Trine University in the fall majoring in mechanical engineering. Hayden has maintained 4.0 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including basketball, baseball, track and field, golf, student council president and Future Farmers of America. CBSA congratulates Hayden on his outstanding achievements and wishes him continued success.

Gretta Kissell



Gretta will be a sophomore in the fall at Columbia University majoring in English and Spanish. Gretta maintains a 4.0 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including the Alma Mater Ambassador Program and the Columbia Daily Spectator. CBSA congratulates Gretta on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.

Lezel Legados


Lezel will be a junior at University of California Los Angeles in the fall and is majoring in global studies and education. Lezel has maintained 3.4 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including being a student researcher for the UCLA Department of Education & Medicine Relational Ontology & Phenomenology of Practice Research Lab and a member of the UCLA BruinCorps Volunteer Service Learning Committee. CBSA congratulates Lezel on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.

Matthew Lee


Matthew will be a senior at Lake Forest College in the fall majoring in finance. Matthew has maintained 3.7 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including student government, the Cilo Society and the finance club. CBSA congratulates Matthew on his outstanding achievements and wishes him continued success.
Thomas Lionetti


Thomas will be a freshman at the University of Rhode Island in the fall majoring in finance. Thomas has maintained 93/100 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including baseball, Students for 60,000, High School Heroes and DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America.) CBSA congratulates Thomas on his outstanding achievements and wishes him continued success.

Maheen Qureshi



Maheen will be a freshman at Binghamton University in the fall and plans on majoring in either biology or political science. Maheen has maintained 94.7/100 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including student government, the international club, Model United Nations and the National Honor Society. CBSA congratulates Maheen on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.

Laila Ruffin



Laila will be a sophomore at Pomona College in the fall majoring in public policy analysis. Laila has maintained 3.7 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including the Associated Students of Pomona College, the Faculty Position Advisory Committee, The College Community Action Network and as an academic tutor for high school students through Upward Bound. CBSA congratulates Laila on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.

Brooke Ruhoff



Brooke will be a freshman at Lander University in the fall majoring in packaging science. Brooke has maintained 4.0 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including yearbook editor, the interact club, student government and the academic challenge team. CBSA congratulates Brooke on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.

Emma Serros


Emma will be a freshman in the fall at Riverside City College, where she is interested in majoring in sociology, psychology or animal science. Emma maintained a 3.8 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), water polo and swim team, National Honor Society and French Club. CBSA congratulates Emma on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.

Marlena Trunzo 


Marlena will be a junior at Duquesne University in the fall and is majoring in nursing. Marlena has maintained 3.95 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities Zeta Tau Alpha, Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honor Society, Sigma Alpha Pi National Society of Leadership and Success and the National Student Nurses’ Association. CBSA congratulates Marlena on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.

Meghan Turner


Meghan will be a freshman at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis in the fall majoring in anatomy and physiology. In high school, she participated in extracurricular activities including cross-country, pep club, student council and drama club. Janis Vuskalns


Janis will be a freshman at Purdue University in the fall majoring in computer science. Janis maintained a 4.1 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including the swimming and diving team, cross-country, track and field and Spanish club.
