2018 CBSA Scholarship Recipients

CBSA member company employees, children of member company employees and students enrolled in an undergraduate industrial distribution degree program are eligible to apply for the CBSA scholarship.

The Copper and Brass Servicenter Association (CBSA) is pleased to award a 2018 CBSA Scholarship to the following students:


  • Courtnee Ambos, daughter of Mark Ambos, an employee of Materion Corporation and a third time winner
  • Irma Avdic, daughter of Mirza Avdic, an employee of Olin Brass
  • Taylor Beard, daughter of James Beard, an employee of Materion Corporation
  • Claire Chapman, daughter of Charles Chapman, an employee of Materion Corporation
  • Tyler Drey, son of Dusk Moyer, an employee of Cambridge-Lee Industries, LLC
  • Nathan Everett, son of Kristie Mantei, an employee of Materion Corporation
  • Brooke James, daughter of Michael James, an employee of Alro Steel

This is the fourth recognition for Hannah Tomor, who received a CBSA scholarship in 2015, 2016 and 2017. This is the third recognition for Courtnee Ambos, who received a CBSA scholarship in 2015 and 2017. This is the second recognition for Lezel Legados and Sheree Murphy, who each received a CBSA scholarship in 2017.

R. Franklin Brown Jr. Scholarship

Gretta Kissell


Gretta Kissell has been selected as the R. Franklin Brown Jr. Scholarship recipient for 2018, CBSA’s top award for outstanding academic achievement and extracurricular activities.

Gretta will be a freshman in the fall at Columbia University majoring in chemistry and Spanish. Using her passion for science, her goal is to become an anesthesiologist or patent lawyer. In high school, Gretta carried a 4.0 GPA while participating in many extracurricular activities including team caption of the varsity cross country team, president of the student council, science club and National Honor Society. Gretta was also the co-founder of GlamourGals, volunteered with the Greater Findlay Area Chrysalis, sat on the Attorney General Mike DeWine Teen Ambassador Board Program and participated in the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Program. 

The R. Franklin Brown Jr. Scholarship honors R. Franklin Brown, Jr., who retired from CBSA in 2009 after 50 years at the helm of the Copper and Brass Servicenter Association as executive vice president. He joined the trade group in 1959 and was quickly promoted to the position of executive vice president. Upon Brown’s retirement he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council for his exemplary service to the industry.

 


 

2018 CBSA Scholarship Recipients

Courtnee Ambos 


Courtnee will be a senior at Ohio University in the fall majoring in pre-medicine. Courtnee has maintained 3.78 GPA in college and has been on the Dean’s List every semester while participating in extracurricular activities including the programming committee and community service chair of the Phi Delta Epsilon Pre-Medical Fraternity, the public relations chair of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, president of the student government and a member of the American Sign Language Club. 

Irma Avdic


Irma will be a sophomore at the University of Louisville in the fall majoring in chemistry/pre-pharmacy. Irma has maintained 4.0 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities the Student Organization for Alumni Relations, Women for Women student board, Pre-Pharmacy Club and the German Conversation Group.  

Taylor Beard 


Taylor will be a freshman in the fall and plans on majoring in chemistry. Taylor has maintained 4.2 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including caption of the cheerleading squad, first chair in orchestra, a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the Science Club.

Claire Chapman 



Claire will be a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the fall and plans on majoring in actuarial science. Claire has maintained 4.51 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including treasurer of the student government, a leader during the Kairos Retreat, French Club and Cross Country. She also received the Honors Algebra Award which is given to the student with the highest grade in the class

Tyler Drey 


Tyler will be a senior at Temple University in the fall and is majoring in ceramics. Tyler has maintained 3.68 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including the Tyler Clay Collective (TCC).

Nathan Everett



Nathan will be a senior at Michigan State University in the fall and is majoring in physics. Nathan has maintained 3.8 GPA in college and made the MSU Dean’s List while participating in extracurricular activities including the Society of Physics Students and the Astronomy Club.

Brooke James 



Brooke will be a freshman at Grand Valley State University in the fall and plans on majoring in elementary education. Brooke has maintained 3.97 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including captain of the volleyball team, member of the National Honor Society, choir and basketball.

Jasmine Johnson


Jasmine will be a senior at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in the fall and is majoring in multimedia journalism. Jasmine has maintained 3.88 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including the National Association of Black Journalists, the yearbook staff, Aggie News and Views and the honors program. 
 Emma Kerr



Emma will be a freshman at Indiana University Bloomington in the fall and plans on majoring in international relations and Arabic. Emma has maintained 4.66 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including senior council, the Student Ambassador program, the National Honor Society and Students Against Destructive Decisions.  

Sebastian Lasher



Sebastian will be a freshman at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the fall and plans on majoring in architecture. Sebastian has maintained 4.0 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including captain of the varsity swim team, president of the symphonic band and participating on the soccer team and lacrosse team. He is also involved in the National Honor Society, NYS Mathematics Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, NYS Boy's State Delegate (Honorary Distinction by Niagara County) and received the Perfect Attendance Award.

Lezel Legados



Lezel will be a sophomore at University of California Los Angeles in the fall and is majoring in global studies. Lezel has maintained 3.3 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including the Communications Team for the UCLA Office of the President, a member of the UCLA Students for Education Reform and a community representative for the UCLA Resident Council. 

Isabel Little



Isabel will be a freshman at McGill University in the fall and plans on majoring in international development studies. Isabel has maintained 3.88 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including captain of the varsity water polo team, president of the Mock Trial team, Charity Chair of Field Day, National Honor Society and a leader in the New Student Welcoming Group.

Kyle Long



Kyle will be a senior at Trine University in the fall and is majoring in Social Studies Education with a minor in English. Kyle has maintained a 3.5 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including the Student Education Association, the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Order of Omega, and is currently entering his second term as Student Government President. CBSA congratulates Kyle on his outstanding achievements and wishes continued success.

Jenna Masenheimer



Jenna will be a freshman at Millersville University in the fall and plans on majoring in music business technology. Jenna has maintained 4.0 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities such as the Drum Major for the marching band, student director for choir, president of theater, secretary for Relay for Life, Future Business Leaders of America, Mock Trial and student council. CBSA congratulates Jenna on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.

Sheree Murphy



Sheree will be a sophomore at Iowa State University in the fall and is majoring in mechanical engineering. Sheree has maintained 3.8 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including prISUm, the Iowa State Solar Car team. CBSA congratulates Sheree on her outstanding achievements and wishes her continued success.

Jack Riley 



Jack will be a freshman at Iowa State University in the fall and plans on majoring in aerospace engineering. Jack has maintained 5.0 GPA in high school while participating in extracurricular activities including the speech team, tennis team and politics club. CBSA congratulates Jack on his outstanding achievements and wishes him continued success.

Hannah Tomor



Hannah will be a senior at Bowling Green State University in the fall and is majoring in AYA science education chemistry and biology. Hannah has maintained 3.96 GPA in college while participating in extracurricular activities including Trip Leader for the Freshman Wilderness Experience, Vice President and Camp Counselor for Salam All Stars 4H Club and the BGSU Learning Science Community.
