Scholarships: Build the Future

Each year, CBSA reinforces its commitment to members and their employees by offering the CBSA Scholarship Program. Funded by donations from member-companies, CBSA awards multiple scholarships in various amounts to deserving young men and women who have a parent employed by a servicenter, brass mill, supplier member company or enrolled in a degree program for industrial distribution.

Applying is as easy as 1-2-3

STEP 1: Read the eligibility requirements

Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and financial need.
To be considered, the student must first meet the following criteria:

  • Have at least one parent employed by a CBSA member-company or be enrolled in a degree program for industrial distribution.
  • Be pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited four-year college or university
  • Be taking at least 6 credit hours in the upcoming year
  • Be a freshman, sophomore or junior in a college/university
  • Have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

STEP 2: Complete the application process

The application form is available here. Only completed applications will be considered. A completed application consists of the following:

  • Scholarship Application (pages 1-3)
  • Completed "Financial Need Questionnaire" signed by a parent or guardian (page 4 of the Scholarship Application)
  • Publicity Release (page 5 of the Scholarship Application)
  • College or high school (if a college freshman) transcript (senior year only for a freshman)
  • Two letters of recommendation. One from an educator and one from a past or present employer. (If you do not have work or intern experience, please submit two letters from educators.)
  • Typed essay (500 words maximum, in English) on "Why I chose ___________ as my major."

Scholarship winners must also be willing to provide CBSA with a digital, color photograph suitable for
publishing (no phone-camera or candid shots, please) and a brief, mid-year report on their progress.

STEP 3: Submit all materials by mail
  • All application materials must be received or postmarked by March 1, 2012.
  • Applicants will be notified of their status by mid-July
  • Scholarship checks will be sent directly to the school in which the student is enrolled
